Our Saturday morning football group is still going strong (after some seven years) and is a very enjoyable experience for our young people. Everyone involved with the group would
like to say a big ‘Thank you’ to DSL.
Not only do DSL help financially in helping to subsidise the cost of hiring the gym, along with Mossley Hill Athletic Club, but they have recently given us the money to buy our own football kit.
We no longer have a mixture of Liverpool and Everton kits, and a sprinkling of kits for foreign clubs, all the lads look the same now, and I would say they look very professional (and extremely bright).
The only problem now is to tell the teams apart during matches. We do, however, still have some money left over and will be able to buy some tabards. I hope it can be seen on the photographs that we have had DSL
printed on the front of the shirts. This is to show they have sponsored us and also makes the players look even more professional. We have a hardcore of about five lads with DS who turn up every week. Family members and a couple of friends who make the numbers up on a regular basis join them; we have issued kits to these lads as well.
I think word about the group is still getting around. We had some new faces turn up last week that I think heard about the sessions at the recent DSL bowling evening.
The group meets most Saturday mornings, except when the gym is not available to us. We meet at Greenbank Sports Centre, Greenbank Lane, Liverpool 18 at 9 am and have the gym for an hour.
We charge £1.50 per child, which helps to cover the cost of the gym.
Although we only have boys playing at the moment, I would like to point out that the group is not aimed only at boys. Girls with DS, sisters or other female family members would be equally welcome to come and join in.
If anyone would like further information about the group you can speak to our coach Alan Atkinson on 0151 724 6181.
Once again, a very big ‘THANK YOU’ to DSL from all of us for your support.
